If you're reading this review, I will assume you want to learn how to do watercolor painting. I will cover everything you will learn from the author of this book so that you can make an informed decision on whether or not you think that it is right for you.
The author goes into graphic detail, from beginning to end, on how to paint using watercolors.
The book is divided into sections, making it very easy, not only to follow, but to go to the section you're most interested, if you're not exactly a beginner but just want to get advanced materials.
We begin with a section on materials. What to use and why you are using, plus what are the best materials available.
Section 2 is in the palette ... how to organize it, and how to avoid the biggest mistakes that beginners make with their palettes. This is more important than it probably has.
Section 3 goes on the composition, how to create a horizon line, the focus and the use of abstractions. However, all the basics.
Section 4 is about the creation of figures, which is probably one of the hardest things to do. This section is very well written.
Section 5 goes into the color, how to divide the pigments to obtain better results to determine the emotional impact of color, using color to suggest movement and the right way to add reflections. This is where the book starts to go a bit beyond the basics.
Section 6 goes into the special effects ... and many of them. This is one of the most fun parts of the book if you're at it.
Section 7 shows how to paint trees. It's not as difficult as it seems once he shows you how.
Section 8 is on landscapes and how to work a pencil drawing.
Section 9 shows how to paint the perfect window. This is REALLY cool.
Section 10 shows you how to achieve different textures, such as the texture of old wood. This is well explained.
Section 11 is on how to create borders, realistic images and how to avoid "stuck on" look.
Section 12 refers to the interior paint and how to choose an interesting topic. It also goes into abstraction.
Section 13 shows how to paint street scenes. This is probably one of the most detailed work.
Article 14 goes on the use of forms and shapes. This is more abstract than anything else. So if you're not into abstract art, this section will probably not be of much interest to you.
Article 15 is very cool. No more than painting landscapes, breaking waves, how to make waves Whitecap, and how to create a beach scene. If you really want to impress people, and you master these techniques.
Section 16 is the title of Planning and Selection. It is a demonstration of complete step by step how to work a photograph of a watercolor done. This absolutely had to finish the book. It's brilliant.
As you can see, the book is quite comprehensive. In addition, it gives a bonus book on how to paint faces. Frankly, it's a great value. At least, please visit her website and see what it has to offer.
